RICHMOND -- Actor Sean Penn's 1987 Buick Grand National, stolen during the daytime last week from a downtown Berkeley street and found abandoned in Richmond, was retrieved Monday from a Richmond tow yard by a representative for the actor, police said.
Penn's two handguns, which were inside the black muscle car, remained missing.
Richmond police Lt. Arnold Threets said Saturday there were no firearms in the car when it was spotted by a Richmond police officer in the 300 block of Sixth Street.
Penn, 42, has a concealed weapons permit to carry a 9 mm Glock semiautomatic and a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, police said. The Glock was loaded when the Buick was stolen.
Penn lives in Marin County and was eating lunch at a Shattuck Avenue restaurant in Berkeley when his car, which was parked nearby, was swiped sometime between 1 and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
